What Can the COVID-19 Generation Learn from the Great Plague Generation?

In 1527, Martin Luther ministered during an outbreak of the bubonic plague in Germany.

In 1665, Puritan preachers ministered during the Great Plague of London.

In 1854, Charles Spurgeon ministered during a cholera outbreak in London.

In 1918, American pastors ministered during the Spanish Flu epidemic.

And in 2020, the global church faces the Coronavirus pandemic.

As we walk through these uncertain times, we do so prayerfully. And what should we be praying for right now? Perhaps one of the Puritan preachers of the 17th century might lend us some insight for our prayers.

Washing Hands to Psalm 23 in the Midst of a Pandemic

In the face of the Coronavirus pandemic and in order to quiet our hearts in the goodness of the Lord, I encourage you to skip the “Happy Birthday” and “Jailhouse Rock,” and instead, quote Psalm 23 each time you wash your hands.

Who's Talking to Your Children & the Danger of Silence

With so many heart-breaking stories and so many polarizing responses, we find ourselves paralyzed. Not knowing what to say or even how to move forward, we end up doing nothing, saying nothing. This is a problem. Silence in the face of brokenness is dangerous. And when we bring that into the home, our family becomes lost, searching for a response we failed to provide, and finding only the best counsel the world has to offer.

CNN Asks Right Question. Gives Wrong Answer

“Who Can Heal America” is the right question. In the midst of terrorism and racism and needless death and murder, we need to seek healing for this nation. We need healing for the hurting hearts, the sinful hearts, the broken hearts. However, I don’t believe President Obama, Clinton, or Trump are poised to usher in this season of healing.
