The Love of God

February’s devotionals are designed to help you lead your family into a deeper understanding of the love of God—not as a feeling, but as God reveals it in Scripture: covenantal, sacrificial, faithful, and transforming. Throughout the month, you’ll trace that love from the Old Testament, through its fullest expression in Jesus Christ, and into the daily life of those who follow Him. The goal is not just to talk about love, but to recognize it, trust it, and live it.

The month is anchored by the memory verse, Romans 5:8“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This verse reminds us that God’s love does not wait for worthiness or improvement—He loved first. Returning to it throughout the month helps keep love firmly rooted in the gospel.

This month’s mission project, Love Your Neighbor Kits, gives your family a practical way to put love into action. As you assemble care kits with Scripture and encouragement, talk about why we give and how this reflects the way God has loved us. The project reinforces that love is not only something we receive—it is something we reflect.

An ideal rhythm is to read the devotional yourself early in the day and carry it with you in prayer and reflection. When your family gathers—often around the dinner table—lead the family time and prayer, then ask the discussion questions during the meal. Don’t rush the conversation; leaving space for silence often invites deeper thought.

Of course, real life rarely follows an ideal schedule. Some days the devotional may happen in the car, at bedtime, or not at all. That’s okay. The goal is not perfection but faithfulness. Use the material flexibly, trusting that even brief, repeated moments in God’s Word will shape your family over time.
